Inspiring a lifetime of adventure
Devonshire House Prep School found Wildchild when searching for viable Year 3 residential trip offerings. They knew a residential trip would be beneficial for their Year 3 students, as many had never been away from home before, but every provider they approached was too far away or had a two-night minimum booking.
Deputy Headteacher, Louise Reen explained that “Finding Wildchild, who offered a one-night Year 3 residential trip just a 40 minute drive away, meant we could offer our children their first overnight experience without the long travel time”.
Wildchild created a one-night Year 3 residential trip solution perfect for Devonshire House Prep School’s younger students. The option for indoor heated lodge accommodation meant the trip could be held at any time of the year, perfectly fitting into the school’s busy timetable.
Wildchild hosted a parent information evening at Devonshire House to introduce Wildchild, answer questions and reassure parents facing their first experience of having their children away from home.
“For us, it’s the idea precursor to the Year 4 two-night trip and the week-long residentials pupils take on later in their school life”. Louise Reen.
A Wildchild Adventure takes children back to basics, away from technology. Many Devonshire House pupils are lucky enough to have a lot of technology at their fingertips, but a Wildchild Adventure gives them an opportunity to unplug, enjoy the bushcraft activities, and really be at one with nature. And they love it!
They love building bug hotels, being outside, not worrying about getting dirty. It’s a fantastic and unique opportunity for pupils – and teachers – to move away from time constraints and really enjoy the activity they’re working on in the moment.
One of the best things for teachers of being a part of a Wildchild Adventure is seeing children outside of the classroom environment. They really shine when they’re outdoors, building shelters, working in teams. Children on the trip are often very different to children in the classroom. And of course pupils see a different side to their teachers too, as they have a chance to get stuck in with the children, giving every activity a go. The teachers love it just as much as the kids!
