    1. I have limited time available and won’t be able to work with Wildchild for a whole season. Am I still eligible to apply?

Yes! Because our adventure programmes run all year round, we can offer flexible work placements so you can choose the days, months and hours that are convenient for you.

    2. What qualifications are required to work for Wildchild?

Although this may vary depending on the job, generally we don’t require formal qualifications from applying candidates for our outdoor camp positions. Our priority is to find team members that share our ethos and passion for working outdoors. Our camp activity leader positions are perfect for students or freelance workers looking to supplement other work or education and to build experience in outdoor education. Depending on the role you may need to have previous experience working in outdoor education – our bushcraft instructors, for example, do need to have some experience working in the role. Visit our job pages for more detailed information on the criteria for the job opportunities available.

    3. Do you provide staff training?

Yes. All staff joining our team will attend our comprehensive training days, including safeguarding, health and safety etc, and receive on-going mentoring from our experienced camp leaders.

    4. What are Wildchild looking for in terms of personal attributes when recruiting for your team?

While the criteria may vary slightly depending on the role, we are generally looking to recruit team members who are:

    • Friendly
    • Flexible
    • Sociable and outgoing
    • Confident working with children and adults
    • Polite and professional
    • Comfortable working outdoors and share our passion for outdoor education

    5. What is the dress code?

The majority of our work takes place outdoors requiring you to be physically active, and so our dress code is casual and comfortable to suit the nature of the activities you will be working on. We provide staff with Wildchild T-shirts and hooded sweatshirts, and we recommend staff also wear / bring:

    • dark trousers (waterproof / cotton trousers – ideally not jeans as these aren’t suitable in the case of wet weather)
    • comfortable outdoor shoes / walking boots
    • A warm waterproof jacket
    • Gloves
    • Hat

    6. Is food and accommodation provided?

When working on camp meals are included – these are generally hot meals prepared on site, occasionally packed lunch.   Accommodation (tents) are also available and included at no charge, should this be required.

    7. What are the working hours?

Our camps run from early March through to November (term-time), most weekdays all day and overnight, so we can offer flexible working hours to suit you.

    8. What form of guidance / support is provided when joining the team?

Every team member joining Wildchild will receive:

    • A tour of the site
    • Access to a mentor who you will work with / shadow while you learn the role
    • Access to our standard operating procedures to support and guide you during your training and throughout your time at Wildchild.
    • Access to any additional relevant training courses to help you gain experience and qualifications in specific areas (bushcraft, archery etc).

    9. I have a current DBS certificate – will I need to apply for another one if I join?

Wildchild will undertake a DBS check.

    10. What are your wet weather contingencies?

Our Adventure programmes run all year round, and, as long as it’s safe to do so, whatever the weather. Wildchild staff receive training on wet weather contingencies and how to adapt activities to ensure health and safety protocols are adhered to at all times.

    11. What sort of group numbers and ages do you cater for on your trips?

Our smallest groups are 30, largest 145. Our adventures can be tailored for schools and groups of children from age 6 through to young adults.

    12. At which times of the year do Wildchild operate?

Wildchild Adventures operate all year round, although our busiest months are March through to October.

    13. How do I go about applying for a Wildchild vacancy?
