Why choose a Wildchild Bushcraft School Trip

You’ve probably spotted that Wildchild offers two different types of visits: adventure trips and bushcraft experiences. We’re often asked what makes our bushcraft trips special.

If you book an adventure trip, we offer a taster of bushcraft activities. Children enjoy bug hunting, shelter building, and team games in our woodlands. A bushcraft trip takes things a step further.

Our bushcraft adventures create a deeper, immersive feeling of being in nature. The emphasis is on learning about wildlife, caring for the environment, and working in a team. Your children will love the fun of fire lighting and shelter building, but they’ll also learn from our experienced and knowledgeable trip leaders about the physical geography of the area.

Why choose a one-night Bushcraft residential trip?

By staying for one night, your students experience two full days of bushcraft adventure. The fun starts from the minute they arrive. It’s a chance to get out of the classroom and away from screens to experience the fun of being in nature.

Bushcraft trips are perfect for building the skills your students need in the classroom.

    • Team building
    • Resilience
    • Problem solving
    • Peer relationships

What will you experience in your Bushcraft trip?

Our activities have been carefully designed by an experienced instructor qualified by the Institute of Outdoor Education. Every challenge helps your class build in confidence as they work as a team to overcome problems and celebrate success.

    Your trip includes:

    • Fire lighting
    • Shelter building
    • Survival skills
    • Campfire cooking
    • Archery
    • Tying knots
    • Woodland plants and animals

You spend your evening with marshmallows and hot chocolate around the campfire. Your students will love going on a scavenger hunt, tobogganing, and playing team games. For many children, the best bit is singing around the campfire, camping in a bell tent, and spending time surrounded by beautiful forest and woodlands.

“Enlightening! Wonderful to see the children thrive and experience challenges in a safe manner! It scares them just enough to push them out of their comfort zones but remains fun!” Whytemead Primary School

What makes Wildchild different to other Bushcraft trip providers

Large residential providers feel impersonal. Lots of schools crowded in, competing for attention. It’s expensive and lacks the personal touch you’re looking for in a residential trip. Wildchild is different.

Our family-run, award-winning school trips are designed around you. We tailor every activity to the age and abilities of your students. Whilst there’s lots of fun and excitement, there’s also time to talk and reflect on what they’re learning with no need to rush between activities. Your class will build stronger bonds and memories that last a lifetime.

“A fabulously engaging and inspiring visit for our children who would not get to experience these activities elsewhere.”  Kings Oak Primary School

    Exciting accommodation options

Our two activity centres in Hertfordshire and Surrey are set in stunning woodlands close to the M25. No more time trapped in a coach to reach a distant location. Reduce your journey costs, minimise time out of your busy calendar, and create a simple, fuss-free trip that’s perfect for your students.

Both centres offer cosy indoor accommodation for year-round bushcraft trips. In the warmer months, you have the option of proper beds in our popular bell tents for that authentic under canvas experience.

    We provide:

    • In Surrey: Warm and dry glamping pods with underfloor heating
    • Beautiful bell tents in Hertfordshire,  complete with proper beds for the warmer months
    • Excellent shower and toilet facilities
    • Nutritious hot meals–just bring a packed lunch for your first day
    • Sheltered outdoor areas and an indoor space for eating

    Wilchild Bushcraft instructors

Wildchild instructors are passionate about what they do. You’ll see them develop positive relationships with your students as they teach new skills, build confidence, and introduce them to the wonders of our natural world.

We train every Wildchild instructor in outdoor education. They have first aid training and DBS checks. Your instructor will be with you for every step of your adventure from early morning to late into the evening. They even stay on call overnight, just in case you need them.

It’s easy to see why schools keep coming back to us year after year. We offer you a fantastic, affordable overnight bushcraft trip to give your students an adventure they’ll never forget.
